P.D.A.C. History
In 1986, the Police Commissioner ordered each Police District's Commanding Officer and Community Relations Officer to develop a council made up of community leaders and themselves. These groups, named Neighborhood Advisory Councils (N.A.C.), were to work to develop a positive relationship between the local police districts and the communities that they served. They were to promote the free exchange of information between the police and the public, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime and fear within the community. Within a few years, the administration renamed the groups Police Advisory Councils (P.A.C.) in an effort to have the name better reflect the purpose of the groups and demonstrate their affiliation with the Police Department. In an effort to further emphasize the local nature of each individual council, the name was changed again shortly thereafter. That name change, which remains in effect today, is the Police District Advisory Council (P.D.A.C.).
